A 28-year-old man has been arrested in the Santutxu neighborhood of Bilbao for his involvement in the violent death of an 89-year-old woman, with whom he had family ties and who was found dead in her home with injuries caused by a knife. , the Basque Department of Security reported this Friday.

The alleged murderer approached an Ertzaintza patrol that carried out citizen protection functions last midnight and told them that he had stabbed a family member at a home in Santutxu, in Bilbao. The police agents and health professionals have gone to the house and have verified that in one of the rooms there was a woman who showed signs of violence caused by a knife that was found at the scene of the crime. Medical personnel have confirmed the death of the woman.

The man has been arrested as the author of the homicide after confessing the facts. A judicial delegation and members of the Scientific Police have also moved to the house to initiate the investigation to clarify this homicide that would be framed “in the field of domestic violence,” the Ertzaintza has indicated in an informative note. The lifeless body of the victim has been transferred to the Bilbao Forensic Pathology Service, where an autopsy will be performed.
